Deeply open to others in all their diversity and determined to bring together “the people” he meets through music and art, Stracho Temelkovski has worked with a wide range of institutions in France and abroad since the very start of his career: music composition workshops in underserved urban neighborhoods, and with inmates at the Varces prison (Isère) and Les Baumettes prison in Marseille, with whom he recorded an album…
Art that reaches people where they live
In 2017, he began his first community artist residencies with the Isère Department (in the Pays Roussillonnais with EPCC Travail et Culture, then in the Vals du Dauphiné across more than thirty towns). From 2023 to 2026, he is the first-ever associate artist of the Jazz à Vienne Festival as part of a community artist residency, “Vienne la plurielle,” supported by the Isère Department. Throughout this period, he combines demanding creative work with residents, amateurs and beginners, and professional artists (choreographers, a slam poet, a conductor, an opera singer, musicians, a videographer…) with performances of his own work.
International Collaboration
Brazil, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia… Stracho Temelkovski loves discovering and creating with musicians he meets on tour abroad or through cultural cooperation projects with the Institut Français. He is invited to create or perform with local artists—in a duo with Negão Da Serrinha, a hometown hero of Brazil’s largest samba school; with Flavia Coelho in Rio for a guest feature; or composing a repertoire with five Saudi musicians for the Red Sea Festival, commissioned by the Tariq Abdulhakim Museum and the Saudi Ministry of Culture.

“An artist is like a bee gathering nectar—whether traveling the world, seeking connections with musicians from every background and culture, or making encounters happen. Working with school groups, conservatory students, inmates, or people with disabilities—getting them involved, passing on knowledge, and inviting them into an artistic collaboration—these are thrilling adventures. They’re often tied to a challenge or a timeline, with the goal of a performance or a finished artistic work. Beyond musical technique and intention, these are experiences that leave a mark and bind us forever to the people who agreed to take part. It’s beautiful to see amateurs so proud after a performance; they come away enriched. I think it does a lot of good for the residents and participants involved, and for the communities where this kind of adventure is made possible.”

In addition to post-show talkbacks with the audience, Stracho Temelkovski offers several types of workshops when presenting one or more of his projects, for all audiences ages 6 and up, in short or long formats tailored to available resources.
“I’ve always loved sharing around music—talking about the substance of the creative process. About the path it takes, both technically and artistically, and the work on identity; from an introduction to odd-meter rhythms and modal improvisation to the very heart of any creation. Whatever makes you want to compose, produce, and share has also always helped me learn more about myself. It’s a dialogue that enriches the one who teaches, too. Whether with highly skilled musicians or with beginners from different backgrounds, cultures, and social classes, to me, music is a way to bring people together and to share.”
