The Sound Braka Quartet

The Sound Braka (“brothers of sound” in Macedonian) is a flexible ensemble, from trio to quartet, born out of the studio recording of Stracho Temelkovski’s debut album. Drawing on acoustic sounds and the oral tradition of odd-meter rhythms, it offers a richly nuanced journey through jazz, the Balkans, the Mediterranean, Africa, and Asia.

Multi-instrumentalist Stracho Temelkovski has the rare ability to switch from bass to viola, from mandola to percussion (bendir and udu)—or even play them all at once! In this project, he shares his repertoire with his musical “brothers,” virtuosos and close collaborators. The sincerity of their heartfelt playing is immediately apparent. The music speaks to us directly, inviting us to travel through sonic poetry toward a new continent.
